Overheard a guy at the lumberyard talking about his glue-up jig
He was telling the cashier he uses a 3 foot piece of 80/20 T-slot extrusion as a straight edge for clamping face frames. I tried it on a maple project last week and it made the whole process way faster and straighter. What other simple jigs have you guys built that saved a ton of time?

Honestly, the whole "simple jig" thing is overrated. You said it made the process way faster, but that's just extra setup time you're ignoring. Buying a 3 foot piece of extrusion isn't cheap either. I've been woodworking for years and a reliable steel straightedge and some careful clamping does the same job without another gadget taking up space. People get obsessed with building jigs for every single task instead of just improving their core skills.

My shop is basically a jig museum at this point. I've got a dedicated fixture just for cutting butter. Sean's right, my straightedge is probably under the pile of jigs I built to find my other jigs.
