I blew $175 on a pocket hole jig and a box of plugs, and wish I had just cut real joints
Everyone on the forums kept saying how fast pocket screws are, so I bought the Kreg K5 kit at a Rockler in Denver and used it on a set of maple cabinet faces for a customer. The screws pulled the stiles out of line and every plug I glued in still showed after sanding, so I tore the boxes apart and redid the whole job with dadoes and glue. I ate the cost of the maple and a day and a half of labor, and the customer never knew. Is there some trick with pocket screws on hard maple I am missing, or do you only use them on paint grade stuff?
