Tried a watercolor wash for my monthly cover page and it warped the paper bad

I wanted a nice blue background for my April spread, so I got out my watercolor set and did a full page wash. The paper in my Leuchtturm1917 journal buckled and dried with big ripples. Now my next ten pages are all wavy and hard to write on. I learned that notebook paper isn't always meant for wet media. Anyone have a good journal brand that can handle a little paint without falling apart?

My friend swears by Archer and Olive notebooks for mixed media. Their paper is super thick, like 160 gsm, so it handles light washes pretty well. You might want to check them out for your next journal.

Oh man, "handles light washes pretty well" is the dream... my current journal handles light washes like a screen door on a submarine. I tried a watercolor doodle last week and now the next ten pages are a crinkled mess. I clearly need to step up my paper game, but my wallet is already crying from all my pen buys. Those Archer and Olive books look amazing, but I'd be scared to actually make a mark in something that nice. I'd probably just stare at the first blank page for a month.
