Chat with a hostel owner in Prague changed my packing style
I was staying at this tiny hostel in Prague last month, and the owner Maria saw me struggling with my giant backpack. She told me she's been traveling for 12 years with just a 30 liter bag and a foldable tote. She showed me how she rolls everything and uses packing cubes for compression. Has anyone else downsized their luggage and actually liked it better?

Rolling clothes does save space but packing cubes ain't magic.

My last trip I fit three days worth of clothes in a standard backpack by rolling everything tight. The key is to roll shirts and pants separately not mix them together in one big roll. I also use those cheap mesh bags from the dollar store for socks and underwear keeps them from getting lost in the shuffle. Works better than any fancy packing cube system I've tried.
