Shoutout to the buddy who made me read a book out loud during debate prep
Our book club got into a huge fight last month over whether the narrator was reliable or just lying. I was on team "he's lying" but couldn't back it up. My buddy Tom said to read the key chapters out loud like a monologue. Felt dumb at first. But hearing my own voice stumble over the contradictions made it obvious the guy was full of it. Won the debate 7 to 4 after that. Has anyone else tried reading aloud to catch stuff you miss silently?

Did you record yourself reading it, or just hear it live? Because there's a big difference. Tom had you do it live with him there, which adds a whole layer of performance pressure that might've made the contradictions hit harder. I'm curious if the stumbles came from your own reading, or from his reactions in the room.
