Reading the book vs listening to the audiobook, my club split right down the middle

We did The Night Circus last month and 7 of us read the physical copy, 6 listened on audio. Half the group said the audiobook narrator made the whole thing feel dreamy and magical. The other half said they could not follow the time jumps without flipping back pages. We spent 25 minutes arguing about which way counts as actually reading the book. Anyone else's club had this fight? How do you handle it when half the group consumed the story differently?

It's like how some folks scroll recipes and others read cookbooks cover to cover, same meal different experience.
