Okay, I was wrong about 'The Great Gatsby' being shallow

Our club argued about it for a month, and my view flipped after someone pointed out the specific line 'So we beat on, boats against the current.' I'd always seen it as just a rich people party story, but that made me see the whole tragic cycle. Anyone else have a book you totally misread at first?

Oh man, my buddy totally missed the point of "Fahrenheit 451" the first time.

Happens to the best of us, that book's easy to misread.
