The moment I caught myself reading instead of working
Back in 2019 I set up a site blocker that let me skip sites for 15 minutes at a time, and I kept hitting that button every single break. Then one day my laptop battery died and I found myself just staring at the wall, waiting for it to charge. That's when I realized I wasn't blocking distractions, I was just making the distraction take longer. I'd been treating the tool like a game instead of a gate, and my focus was worse than before I installed it. Now I use a plain timer and put my phone in the closet, no shortcuts. Has anyone else caught themselves working around their own system like that?
