Just learned my balcony soil is secretly toxic
I was reading some city gardening blog last night about balcony safety, and it hit me that my soil from the local hardware store might have heavy metals from air pollution settling on it. I found a stat that said urban soil near busy roads can have lead levels 3x higher than normal. I live on a 5th floor near a main street downtown, so now I'm freaking out about my tomatoes. Has anyone else tested their balcony soil or switched to raised containers with fresh potting mix?

It's always something we don't think about until it's too late. Feels like everything we trust has a hidden catch these days.

Pick at what point does that worry actually start taking over your day to day though? Like is it something that creeps up on you gradually or does one specific thing just flip a switch?
