Hit 50 different herbs on my balcony last Saturday and didnt even plan it
I was just messing around counting pots for a soil order and realized I had 51 different herb plants crammed onto my 4x8 foot balcony. Started with just basil and mint two years ago, but then I got into Thai basil, lemon balm, and shiso from a friend. Then I picked up lavender, rosemary, and three kinds of sage from a nursery sale. Saturday morning I found a volunteer dill sprouting in a crack between two pots. I counted everything twice because I didnt believe it. Has anyone else accidentally turned their balcony into a full herb farm without meaning to?
That balcony sounds like a little jungle paradise. I did something similar myself a couple years back, started with just some chives and parsley and now I have over forty pots scattered around my back patio. It is amazing how fast herbs multiply, especially when you let a few go to seed and they just pop up everywhere. The volunteer dill is a great discovery, those always taste the best somehow. You might want to keep an eye on that mint though, it will take over everything if you are not careful.
FORTY pots?! That is an insane number. I can barely keep my five basil plants alive without them wilting dramatically the second I look away. How do you even water them all without it turning into a full time job? The seed thing is wild too, I had some parsley go to seed last year and now I have little green shoots popping up in cracks in the concrete. That mint warning is SPOT on by the way, I planted some in a big tub and it still found a way to escape through the drainage holes.
