Storebought pie crust is better than homemade and I'll die on that hill

I tried making pie crust from scratch 3 times last month for a work potluck here in Nashville. First attempt was like chewing on a saltine cracker soaked in butter, second one somehow turned into a gluey mess that stuck to everything, and the third one came out looking like a topographical map of Tennessee with all the cracks. My grandma's recipe calls for ice water and a pastry cutter and all this careful folding nonsense. After 6 hours total across those 3 tries, I grabbed a box of Pillsbury for $3.50, rolled it out in 2 minutes, and my apple pie won second place at the shop. Everyone raved about the flaky crust not knowing it came from a box. Has anyone else just given up on the whole homemade pastry thing or is it just me?

Hold up, you won second place with a storebought crust and that somehow proves homemade is bad? I mean good for you and your potluck win, but a pie contest at a shop in Nashville is not exactly the Pillsbury Bake-Off. I've definitely had those crust disasters where it looks like a puzzle more than a pie, but there's a middle ground here. Like, does it really matter if people liked it? You saved time and money and got a ribbon. But saying you'll "die on that hill" over pie crust is a lot of drama for a Tuesday. Grandmas been making crust for 80 years, I doubt she's sweating your potluck result.

Wait, didn't your friend try homemade crust once and it turned into a butter puddle?
