Watched a demo of a new AI that writes its own training data and it blew my mind

Yeah when you said "echoing its own flaws" that hit home. I mean, if it's only learning from its own made up data, it could get stuck in a loop. Like if the first batch has a tiny bias, the next batch copies it, and it just gets worse each time. You end up with a model that's really confident but totally wrong about stuff. Feels like we're building houses on sand.

I was saving for a house in Phoenix for two years before I saw my mistake

Oh man, same thing happened to me! I had my emergency fund just sitting in my regular checking account for years. I finally moved it to an online bank's savings account last year and made like $300 in interest already. It feels like free money I was just ignoring.

Thinking back to when every garage was full of barely used equipment

Tell linda626 that's a great way to keep paint out of the trash.

Just realized that $400 digital governor tester was a complete waste for my shop

My 90s treadmill controller has the same compatibility issue.

TIL my old way of setting posts was costing me half a day on every job

You're absolutely right about that. I saw it happen to my own fence years ago. The posts set in dry mix just sort of eroded at ground level, leaving a gap that held every rain. The ones we did with wet concrete formed a smooth collar that shed water away from the wood. It made a visible difference in how long they lasted. That little slope you can shape with wet mix is what does the trick. It seems like more work at the time, but it saves a lot of trouble later.
