Pro tip: don't buy cheap plastic feeders from the big box store
I got a $25 plastic feeder from the farm store in town, and the chickens knocked it over and wasted feed constantly. After a month, the plastic cracked in the cold and I had to buy a metal one anyway. What's a good, heavy feeder that won't tip for a flock of 8 hens?

Ugh, I learned that lesson the hard way too. I got a heavy duty galvanized steel feeder with a low center of gravity and it was a total game changer. Mine has a treadle plate so the lid only opens when a chicken steps on it, which keeps the wild birds and rain out. It was more money up front but I haven't had a single spill or tip in two years. That thing is a tank.

Yeah, that "wasted feed constantly" part is so frustrating. I had the same problem with a lightweight one before I switched. A heavy galvanized steel feeder with a wide base solved it for my small flock.
