My buddy in Charlotte told me my brake job was missing one step

He said I always forget to clean and lube the caliper slide pins, which can cause uneven pad wear. I started doing it on every brake job since then, and it really helps. Has anyone else found a small step that makes a big difference?

What about using a torque wrench on the caliper bracket bolts? I read that over-tightening them can warp things and cause noise. It seems like a simple step that gets skipped a lot.

Yeah, I torque those bracket bolts to 85 ft-lbs on my truck. Going by feel is a sure way to get a warped rotor and that awful squeal.
