Vent: HVAC guy told me my unit was fine then charged $500 for nothing

Last week I called a local company because my AC was blowing warm air. The tech came out, poked around for 10 minutes, said the capacitor looked fine and it was just a dirty filter. Then he handed me a bill for $500 for the service call and diagnostic fee. I felt like I got scammed but didn't know what to say. Anyone else dealt with pushy HVAC companies in Atlanta that charge crazy fees for a simple look?

$500 for a dirty filter? That's insane. They probably saw you coming from a mile away. I had a similar thing happen with a plumbing company in Decatur once. Dude charged me $300 to tell me my garbage disposal was jammed and he just pushed a reset button. Felt like such a fool. Honestly sounds like they knew the AC was fine but still hit you with that fee to make a quick buck.
