Two weeks to fix a water heater, should've just called day one
My water heater pilot light kept going out in my Decatur rental around mid-January. I thought it was a fluke, so I kept relighting it, maybe six times in a week. Then I watched a YouTube video about thermocouples and figured I could swap it myself for $25 at the big box store. Three trips later because I bought the wrong size and then stripped a fitting, I finally gave up and called a licensed plumber from a local service list. He showed up, had the part on his truck, and had it running in 45 minutes. Total cost was $180 for his visit, but my time and frustration were way more than that. Anyone else tried a DIY fix on a rental property and ended up paying double in the long run?

And that $180 probably felt like a bargain compared to the three days you lost messing with it, lol. Honestly, every DIY fail I've had on a rental just makes me appreciate the "call first" rule even more.
