Found out the city charges $85 just to dump a mattress at the transfer station

I was hauling a load from a Buckhead apartment yesterday and stopped by the Dekalb County transfer station near Memorial Drive. Turns out they slap you with an $85 fee for just a single mattress, no questions asked. Has anyone found a cheaper way to get rid of old mattresses around Atlanta without just leaving them on the curb?

Right on, $85 is straight up robbery lol. I tried to drop off a box spring at the same place last year and they wanted the same crazy fee, ended up just posting it for free on Nextdoor and a guy grabbed it within an hour.

Oh man, that's brutal. $85 for a mattress is absurd (like, they probably just throw it in a dumpster anyway). You could try one of those "bulk pickup" services some trash companies offer for way less, maybe $20 or $30 if you call ahead. Or hit up a local furniture donation place like the Salvation Army or a nonprofit that takes old beds, they'll often haul it for free if it's not totally wrecked. Just gotta check if the mattress has stains or rips first, otherwise they'll turn you away at the door.
