PSA: My neighbor was right about solar panels after all
I spent 3 years telling everyone solar in Atlanta was a rip off cause the payback takes too long. Then my neighbor Mike showed me his electric bills from August - he paid $12 while I paid $280. He said I was looking at it wrong, treating it like an investment instead of a hedge against rising rates. I finally crunched the numbers with Georgia Power's new rate hikes and he was right - my break even dropped from 12 years to 7. Has anyone else changed their mind after someone called them out on their math?

Wait wait wait $12?? For real?? I gotta see that bill to believe it cause my jaw just hit the floor. I'm up in north Georgia and my summer bills are like $200+ easy even with me keeping the AC at 78. That kind of drop makes me wonder if I've been doing my math all wrong too.

Right? It's WILD how different the numbers are. @loganm52 I think you might be onto something because it's not just the AC, it's EVERYTHING else you're running. Like, I started noticing my dryer and my old fridge were just sucking power all day, even when they weren't doing much. Once I got a newer fridge and started line drying my clothes, my bill dropped a lot. It really makes you think how every little thing adds up and you don't even realize it until you see a $12 bill.
