The way people keep calling any old pile of rocks a 'pyramid' is driving me nuts

I was reading about a site in Bosnia where some guy claimed a hill was a pyramid and now tourists are going there. I've worked on actual excavation digs and you can't just look at a hill and call it a pyramid because it kinda looks pointy. Has anyone else run into this fake archaeology stuff going viral?

i mean yeah, it's gotten completely out of hand honestly. i saw that bosnia thing too and i was just shaking my head because the guy has zero actual evidence, it's just a hill with some trees on it. real archaeology takes so much work and patience, like you said, you can't just eyeball something and call it a pyramid because it looks kinda pointy from one angle. it bums me out because it makes people think real history is just whatever story sounds cool on social media.

totally agree with you @cameron_palmer and the bosnia thing is such a joke. i spent a summer on a real dig in the desert and we had to map every single stone by hand for months, not just point at a hill and say "pyramid.
