Can we talk about the difference in that Roman mosaic site after the 2017 restoration?

I saw photos from before the dig in 2010 and after the full restoration was finished last year, and the color shift in the tesserae from being buried to being cleaned and stabilized is just... it's like looking at two different floors.

Yeah, getting the dirt off is the easy part. I worked on a small dig where we had a mosaic section that looked totally brown. The real work was the slow cleaning with soft brushes and special solutions to bring back the actual stone and glass colors without damaging them. The shift from that flat mud color to seeing the bright blues and reds again felt like magic, but it took months.
