That job in Tacoma where the tree had grown around a chain link fence

We got called out to remove a big maple that was swallowing a section of fence. The client wanted the fence saved, so we had to cut the tree into pieces while carefully peeling it off the metal. It took two of us with handsaws and a come-along almost the entire day, and we only got about 15 feet of fence free. Has anyone else had to deal with a tree completely encasing something like that?

Used to think it was easier to just cut the metal.

Used to think it was easier" is the part that gets me. Cutting metal is never easy. It's loud, messy, and takes real skill to do clean. Bending it right the first time saves so much time and effort later. You end up with a stronger piece too, no weak spots from a cut. Once you get the hang of the right tools, bending is the clear winner.
