Had a neighbor knock on my door about my bokashi bin smell
She said it smelled like pickles and rotten eggs mixed together, and that was after I thought I had the lid sealed tight. Anyone else get complaints from people in close quarters about the smell even when you follow the steps?

Tossing a carbon layer on top every time you add kitchen scraps really cut down the smell for me. I use shredded newspaper or dried leaves, just a couple handfuls. Also started burying the food waste deeper in the bucket instead of leaving it on top. Had a similar complaint once, and what really helped was moving the bin to a spot with better airflow outside, not just leaving it on the porch. That pickle smell is a sign the balance is off, so try adding more carbon and less citrus or onion scraps for a while. Did you check if the seal is actually clean and not letting air escape?

Haha yeah my first bin smelled so bad my neighbor thought I was pickling bodies back there. Turns out I was just bad at composting.
