I finally found the problem in a 1970s apartment crawlspace after 3 hours of looking

The coax run was stapled directly over a main water pipe, and the constant condensation had corroded the line completely. I had to reroute everything from the tap, which added another 2 hours to what should have been a 30 minute outlet swap. What's the longest you've spent tracking down a single hidden fault?

Heard a neighbor talking about their 'failed' kraut and it clicked for me

I was taking out my recycling and overheard the guy next door telling his friend his sauerkraut was 'ruined' because it was too salty. He said he used a full 3 tablespoons of salt for one head of cabbage. I realized he probably didn't know the 2% by weight rule, which I only learned from a blog post last fall. Has anyone else had to gently correct a friend's fermenting mistake?

A talk at the San Diego Comic-Con art panel made me rethink my whole process

I mean, I was just there to check out the big displays, but this one artist, Liana Hee, showed how she uses just three base colors and builds everything from that. She said it makes her work feel more solid, and she showed a piece she did in under 2 hours. I tried it on a portrait last week and it really helped me stop overworking things. Has anyone else tried a limited palette trick that actually stuck?
