Saw the difference between wet aging 28 days vs 45 days on a ribeye last week

I split a primals worth of ribeyes from a steer in Iowa, wet aged half for 28 days and the other half for 45. The 45 day batch had way more tender meat and a deeper, almost nutty smell when I opened the bag. Has anyone else noticed a big jump after that 30 day mark, or is it just me?

Hit 50 residential installs this month and it changed how I plan my routes

Always thought I could just wing it on scheduling jobs across town, but after fifty installs in 30 days the backtracking finally got to me. Lost an hour driving past three houses I needed to wire later that same week. Has anyone else found a decent route planner that accounts for traffic in Austin?

Am I the only one who thinks flood coolant is overrated for aluminum work?

I tried running dry on a batch of 6061 parts last week in my Haas VF-2, just using a good air blast, and my finish came out better than with flood. Tool wear was about the same on a 3/8 end mill over 50 parts. Anyone else found they can skip the mess and still get good results?

Ngl hand forging vs machine made shoes - I'll take the anvil every time

Been at this 12 years now, mostly in Kentucky around the track horses. Everyone I know swears by those pre-made keg shoes from the catalog, says it saves time and the horses don't care. But I've been hand forging my own for the last 8 months on this old Thoroughbred named Ned, and the difference is night and day. His gait got smoother, he stopped tripping in the back, and the farrier checkups went from every 4 weeks to almost 6. The machine shoes just don't account for the little twists each horse has. Any other hand forgers still out there or am I just being stubborn?

Debate: Is it better to underwater or overwater a peace lily?

My peace lily started drooping last week and I couldn't figure out why. Turns out I was watering it every 3 days when it actually needed it every 6. My friend swears by letting them go bone dry between waterings but my neighbor says that shocks the roots. Which side are you on for a fussy plant like this?

After 6 months of soggy fries I finally figured out I wasn't preheating the air fryer

Used to just toss frozen fries in cold and hit start, now I let it run empty for 3 minutes first and they actually come out crispy instead of limp, anyone else skip the preheat step without realizing it mattered that much?

Paid $300 for a french drain that flooded my crawlspace anyway

Hired a guy off Nextdoor to install a french drain around my foundation. He charged me $300 for materials and labor, dug a trench, put in the pipe, and covered it up. First heavy rain in Decatur and water was pooling under my house worse than before. Has anyone else here had luck with a specific drainage company around Atlanta that doesn't just throw pipe in the ground?

My old band saw finally gave up after 12 years of service

Last Tuesday I was breaking down a half beef and the blade just snapped mid cut. Not just a small pop either, it sounded like a gunshot in the shop. Had to finish the rest of the primals with a handsaw and a cleaver, took me an extra 2 hours. Anyone else have a tool just die on them at the worst possible time?

The week from hell with a faulty wireless receiver

Last Tuesday I spent 3 hours on a residential install in Portland. Every time I paired a sensor it worked for about 10 minutes then dropped off. I replaced the batteries twice before I figured out the receiver was mounted right next to a metal duct in the attic. Moved it 6 feet away and everything locked in solid. Ever had a signal issue that took way longer than it should have to figure out?

Rant: My balcony garden got destroyed by a 3 day wind storm last week

I had everything going perfect - tomatoes nearly ripe, basil bushing out, even two pepper plants with buds. Then Tuesday morning a storm rolled in off the lake here in Chicago and just wrecked everything. Three pots tipped over, my dill snapped in half, and the wind shredded half the leaves off my kale. I spent Wednesday morning just picking up dirt and broken stems. Has anyone else had luck with those heavy duty wind screens or is it just hopeless on a high floor?

Can we talk about how bad small LCD screens were back in 2005?

Gotta disagree with you there @hugo_coleman28. Electrical tape can actually cause more problems in those hot kitchen environments. The adhesive degrades over time and leaves a sticky mess on the connector. Makes it hell to swap out later. I've seen that gunk wick into ribbon cable contacts and cause intermittent failures worse than the original issue. A tiny dab of hot glue on the latch works way better, or just zip tie the cable to the frame if you can. Just my two cents from dealing with those same restaurant POS setups.

And that kind of mentoring just sticks because it's real. Classroom stuff teaches you theory but out in the field you learn the messy details that make or break a repair. That tech knew you needed a confidence push more than another diagram.
