Seeing robots in the news now makes me think of old sci-fi movies

Back then, robots were big and loud in factories, but now they're tiny and smart in labs. I get confused why we don't see more of them in everyday life yet, like helping with chores.

Seriously though, what's the big deal. They show a robot folding a towel and everyone freaks out. My Roomba still gets stuck on the rug. Saw a delivery bot once that couldn't cross the street curb. They're just fancy appliances. Not like the movies at all.

Wait what, a delivery bot couldn't cross the curb? That's the thing they can't figure out. Saw one last week too, just beeping at a driveway. They show the towel thing but can't handle a basic sidewalk. My Roomba eats charger cables for fun.

Why do we fall for the hype when they can't even handle a curb? Those demos are set up in perfect conditions, but real life has stairs and dog toys. They're just overpriced gadgets until they work in my messy house.

So my neighbor got one of those little floor cleaning robots last year, the fancy kind that's supposed to map your whole house. Thing got lost in the living room for two hours because my kid left a backpack on the floor. Reminds me of what @anna_craig said about perfect conditions, because it totally failed at the first sign of normal clutter. They had to rescue it from behind the couch, just spinning in circles.
