That one forum guy said my 2001 graphics card was fine, it burned out in 20 minutes
Back around March I grabbed an old GeForce Ti 4200 off eBay for like $25 to rebuild my XP gaming rig. Posted here asking if the fan noise was normal and someone with a level 12 badge said "yeah these cards run hot, just leave it be." Yeah no. I fired up Max Payne 2 and the whole thing smelled like burnt plastic after 20 mins. Card is toast. Should have trusted the guy who told me to repaste it, even if it looked clean. Anyone else get bad advice from the louder voices in these threads?
