This week a client brought in a picture of a haircut from a video game
It was for a fantasy character with impossible physics and glowing streaks. I tried to explain that real hair doesn't move like that, and the color would need a full bleach and special dye we don't even carry. She got really upset and said her old stylist in Chicago would have done it, then left without tipping. The whole thing threw off my mood for the rest of the day. I'm all for creative cuts, but some requests just aren't grounded in reality. How do you guys handle it when a client brings in a reference that's clearly not doable?

Ngl, my haircut reference is my driver's license photo.

Honestly @foster.drew, that's a power move. It means you're basically telling the barber you want the haircut you get when you have zero time to care, like the one from the DMV line. My license photo hair is flat from the hat I wore and weirdly greasy from running late. Using that as a guide is committing to a look that says "I had more important paperwork to do.
