Customer asked me to 'blue' a Glock slide with a Sharpie

Guy came into the shop in Tulsa yesterday, dead serious. Said he saw it on a forum, that a permanent marker would work for a quick cold blue. Had to explain it's not paint, it's a chemical conversion on steel. His polymer frame would just get stained. Anyone else get wild requests that show a total misunderstanding of basic materials?

Ever have someone try to fix a car scratch with a crayon? That's the same energy. I just keep a scrap piece of blued steel behind the counter now for a quick demo. Show them the marker wipes right off the real deal, but soaks into anything else. Saves a lot of time compared to arguing about forum myths.

My uncle ran a pawn shop for twenty years. He kept a magnet and a loupe on the counter for the same reason. People get these ideas stuck in their heads from bad sources online. A quick, clear test cuts through all the nonsense talk. It turns a pointless argument into a simple fact check. That scrap steel trick is pure genius for saving your own sanity.
