Showerthought: I keep seeing guys skip the primer on aluminum frames

Last week in a Denver high rise, I watched a crew set a big storefront unit without any metal primer on the frame. They just put the sealant right on the bare aluminum. In my experience, that bond will fail way sooner, maybe in 5 years instead of 20, because aluminum forms an oxide layer. I always use a good etching primer, even if it adds 15 minutes to the job. Has anyone else had to fix a failed sealant job from this?
