My wife asked me why we always use the same glass thickness for shower doors, and I had to stop and think.

Ever notice how a lot of stuff is just built good enough to not break? That glass thickness is the sweet spot where it feels solid but isn't a total waste of money. We accept a ton of those hidden compromises without even knowing.

Our shower door is exactly 3/8 inch thick. I never questioned it until we stayed at a hotel with a thinner one that felt flimsy. Now I see why that standard exists.
