My friend had a similar thing happen with a custom table. The guy lowballed her and said it was just a few nails and wood. The time and skill is the whole point.

Ugh come on... it's just a table though. People act like every handmade thing is some priceless art. Sometimes it really is just wood and nails, and the buyer gets to decide what that's worth to them. Not every hobby needs to turn into a big business deal. If she didn't like his offer, she could just say no and move on.
