$950 worth of work vanished with a client last spring and I had to sell my bike the same week. This whole gig economy runs on people treating freelancers like a backup plan they can ditch when it gets real. The only thing that saved me was a last-minute rush job from a past client who actually remembers that reliability goes both ways.

Remember that time my car needed new brakes the same month a big check just never showed up? Had to borrow from my sister, which felt awful. Makes you wonder why we put up with this constant stress just to make a living. I started keeping a separate bank account now, just a few hundred bucks, that I pretend doesn't exist for exactly this kind of fire.
