Appreciation post: The old iron fence around the courthouse in Greenville is a masterclass in sand casting.
I was walking my dog past the Greenville courthouse yesterday and finally got a close look at that ornate fence, noticing the flawless, crisp detail on each leaf and scroll, which shows some serious skill with the patterns and the sand mix.

Always figured those old fences were just mass produced junk. Seeing the detail up close makes it clear someone put real time into the pattern work. The edges are so sharp it looks like it was made yesterday. Changes how you see all that old ironwork around town.

That iron fence on Maple Street has been rusting for years. I get the detail is nice, but calling it art feels like a stretch. Most of those old pieces were just copied from a catalog. The sharp edges you see probably came from a factory mold, not some blacksmith's careful work. It's cool to look at, but let's not pretend every old fence is a hidden masterpiece.
