Tried a new way to keep hydrangeas from wilting in bouquets. It actually worked.

Yeah, I had the same problem last month. What finally worked for me was dunking the whole flower head in cool water for a few minutes after cutting the stem. @davidmurphy, I haven't tried alum powder, but that sounds like an old school fix. The water dunk seems to rehydrate them fast before they even go in the vase. I also smash the stem ends with a hammer, which feels silly but lets them drink more. They lasted almost a full week looking fresh.

Keeping hydrangeas from wilting is a real trick. My grandma used to swear by dipping the stems in alum powder before putting them in water. It made her kitchen smell like a weird spice cabinet for days.
