Finally got my glue-down vinyl cuts down to zero waste on a big job
Just wrapped up a 1200 sq ft office install in Tempe, and for the first time ever, I didn't have to order a single extra box of material. My scrap pile was just a few tiny offcuts. Six months back, I was easily wasting 5-7% on every glue-down job, mostly from bad planning on complex cuts around door jambs and cabinets. The game changer was actually this free app called 'Floor Plan Creator' on my phone. I spent an extra 30 minutes before the job mapping the whole space, and it let me play with layout patterns virtually. I could see exactly where to start my runs and how to use the odd-shaped pieces from one room to fit into another. The boss noticed and straight up asked me how I pulled it off. Anyone else use a digital layout tool, or have another method to cut down on waste?

Mapping the whole space first is something I used to skip to save time. But seeing your results, that extra 30 minutes with a layout tool clearly pays for itself in saved material. I'm going to try that on my next glue-down job.

Yeah @lee330, that first layout pass always saves me at least a full box of tile on a medium bathroom. What tool are you planning to use?
