My quick link snapped on a steep climb outside Flagstaff
I was about 15 miles from my car when my chain broke on a rocky section. I had a spare quick link in my bag, but I didn't check it before I left. The one I had was old and it gave out after I put it on. I had to walk the bike back to the trailhead in the dark. Does anyone else make a point to check the age of their spare parts before a ride?

That bike shop in Sedona told me quick links can dry out after a few years.

Man, that's rough but I gotta be honest, I've never even thought about a quick link having an expiration date. I just toss one in my bag and forget about it. @emeryp23 might have a point about them drying out, but how often does that actually happen? I've used quick links that sat in my toolbox for years and they worked fine. Seems like maybe you just got super unlucky with a bad part or it wasn't put on right. I'm still not gonna start checking mine like it's a carton of milk.
