Learned the hard way about chain stretch at 500 miles
Never believed chain stretch was real. Thought it was a scam to sell parts. Rode my hardtail 500 miles without checking. Shifted like garbage on a climb near Red Rocks. Measured it myself - 0.75% worn. Replaced it and a worn cassette. Now I check every 3 rides.

That 0.75% thing is like how you don't notice your phone slowing down until you get a new one. Same pattern everywhere, we just get used to the gradual wear until it breaks.

Huh, I actually see it a bit different. Yeah phones slow down, but a lot of that is planned obsolescence and software updates, not a natural thing we should just accept. The 0.75% thing feels more like a slow government tax that most people won't feel right away, not like a phone getting laggy after a few years.
