Spent last weekend at the ReStore in Denver and noticed everyone grabbing spray foam first
I was looking for weatherstripping for my drafty front door and saw three different people walk past all the proper door seals to grab cans of spray foam instead. When I asked one guy about it he said spray foam is just easier and he doesn't bother with the strips anymore. Has anyone else noticed more neighbors reaching for foam over the old tape and strip method?

That spray foam has its place but it's not a straight swap for weatherstripping on a door. I used it on my front door two years ago because I was in a hurry and now I regret it every time it gets humid. The foam expands a lot more than people expect and it can actually push the door frame out of alignment if you're not careful. Plus good luck ever getting that door off to replace it without scraping foam for an hour. The tapes and strips are way better for something that moves like a door does.

I get what you're saying @casey_torres60, but I've had the opposite experience. Used spray foam on my back door a couple years ago and it’s still holding up fine through all seasons. You just have to go easy on the trigger and use the low expansion stuff meant for doors and windows, not the big can for huge gaps. Weatherstripping tape always peeled off within a year for me, so the foam ended up being way less hassle in the long run.
