Overheard a neighbor bragging about using duct tape on a 220v wire at the dump last week
I was dropping off old paint cans at the county dump and heard a guy telling his friend how he fixed a broken dryer cord by wrapping duct tape around a frayed wire. He said it worked fine for 3 months. That scared me honestly. I get that we all want quick fixes but that is a fire waiting to happen. Electrical tape and wire nuts cost like $5 and take 10 minutes. Has anyone else run into dangerous 'repairs' like that?

Honestly I used to think duct tape could fix anything but hearing that changed my mind completely. That stuff is scary dangerous for electrical work.

Gotta say @brooke_walker23 the real danger with duct tape on wires is people don't realize it can actually trap heat. Electrical connections need to breathe a little and duct tape creates this seal that makes things overheat way faster than you'd expect. Plus the adhesive gets gooey and conductive when it gets hot which is basically asking for a short circuit. I've seen people use it as insulation too and that's honestly terrifying because it's not rated for any voltage at all.
