My uncle told me to skip the home warranty, but my realtor said it was a must-have.

We closed on our house in Tampa about three months ago. My uncle, who's owned a few places, said warranties were a waste of $600 a year. Our realtor strongly advised getting one for the first year. We went with the realtor's advice, and last week our AC unit stopped working. The warranty covered the $1,200 service call. I'm glad we listened, but I see my uncle's point about the cost. For other new buyers, is a home warranty usually worth it, or did we just get lucky?

Skip the home warranty"? That is a HUGE gamble. Your AC repair cost DOUBLE the yearly fee. Seems worth it to me.
