Showerthought: I switched from doubting new hires to trusting them faster
I always thought training rookies slowed me down too much. Seeing how a fresh guy spotted a post hole issue I missed made me rethink. Now I give new hands more responsibility early on.

That early trust actually keeps your own skills fresh too.

Ha! That's spot on. Early trust forces you to keep your skills sharp, or at least it should. In my case, I trusted someone early and totally let my own know-how slide. Now I'm stuck playing catch-up and feeling like a complete beginner. It's a tough lesson that trust doesn't mean you can stop learning yourself. So I guess the joke's on me for thinking I could take it easy.
