How I fixed the stepped look on sloped fences

I kept seeing fences that looked like stairs on hills. My solution was to measure each post's height from the highest point. What do you use to keep things level on uneven ground?

Betty's water hose trick is a total game changer for long fence lines. I use a 50-foot clear vinyl hose and put a few drops of food coloring in the water so it's easier to see. The real key is making sure there are NO air bubbles in the line, or your reading will be way off. This method gives you a true level over any distance, which a 4-foot level just can't do on a slope.
