Guy at the supply house told me my post holes were too wide...
He said I was wasting concrete by digging too deep and wide for 4x4 posts, so I switched to a 10-inch auger bit and saved about 3 bags per hole. Has anyone else cut back on concrete like that or am I risking the fence blowing over in a storm?

Go with the bigger holes. You want that fence to survive a storm right? Saving 3 bags is cool but not if you gotta redo the whole thing later. A little extra concrete now beats a blown over fence next spring.

Ive heard that argument before but honestly how many storms are we really talking about here. Unless you live somewhere that gets hurricane force winds every year a normal 8-10 inch hole is plenty for a fence. People act like their fence is holding back a tidal wave or something. Plus concrete gets expensive fast when you're doing a whole fence line and three bags per hole adds up quick over 20 posts. Just make sure you set the posts deep enough and you'll be fine.
