Just saw two student collections side by side at the Parsons show, and the fabric choice made all the difference.

One line used only basic cotton twill and felt stiff, while the other mixed a $45 per yard silk charmeuse with a technical knit for movement. The second collection looked professional, not just like a school project. Has anyone else found that investing in one special fabric can lift a whole design?

Totally agree, it's like a cheat code for looking legit. That one expensive fabric makes everything else around it seem more intentional, even if the construction is still student-level. It's the fastest way to level up your work.

Cheat code for looking legit" is so true. I've felt that exact thing when I finally splurged on one nice piece of fabric. It just makes the whole project click.
