That one hoof crack I thought would take 20 minutes ended up eating my whole afternoon
I was just trying to patch a small quarter crack on a standard farrier nail job but the horse kept fidgeting and the crack ran deeper than I thought, so three hours later I was still out there with no lunch and a half-done shoe - has anyone else had a simple fix spiral into a full day ordeal?

So my neighbor had a tiny crack on her mare's front hoof last spring. It was like a little hairline thing and she figured it was a quick fix. Well she started trimming and it just kept going. She ended up having to call the vet out because the horse started limping bad. The vet said she actually exposed the sensitive laminae and now she has to do a full rehab with a special shoe and weekly visits for like two months. I mean it's probably $600 at this point. So maybe sometimes a little patience actually saves you money and trouble. I'm just saying maybe the universe was trying to tell you that hoof was worse than you thought.

honestly i feel like some people overthink these things lol yeah the horse got sore but that doesnt automatically mean you messed up the laminae. sometimes they just have a rough day and need to chill for a bit before you can finish up.
