Noticed big change in hoof angle after switching to a different shoe

I've been shoeing this one gelding for about two years, always used a standard steel shoe with a slight wedge. About four months ago I switched to a full aluminum egg bar on him for a quarter crack issue. The difference in his hoof angle from the heels forward is pretty drastic, like a solid 5 degree change from what I was getting before. Now his gait looks smoother and he's not landing on his toe as hard. Anyone else see this kind of shift when they swap to egg bars on a chronic problem horse?

Gotta be careful there, egg bars can drop the heel more than you think.

That aluminum egg bar dropped my mare's heels a good bit but her stride opened right up after a few weeks.
