Just realized my admin assistant was doing my job for me

Had coffee with my old boss last week in Chicago. She told me my assistant had been filtering my emails and scheduling my calls for 8 months. I thought I was being efficient. Turns out she was handling 60% of my workload without me noticing. Now I'm trying to figure out how to take back control without looking clueless. Anyone else have a wake-up call about their support staff?

Well that's one way to look at it, I guess. But honestly I see it different. Your assistant was doing her job, maybe even going above and beyond, and it sounds like she made you look good for 8 months. If you didn't notice, that says more about you not paying attention than about her overstepping. Maybe instead of trying to take back control, you should thank her and figure out what she's actually good at so you can delegate better. That's how you stay on top of things without looking clueless.
