Heated a facial bed last week and the gel pad melted halfway through a treatment

Had a client booked for a 60 minute facial and about 30 minutes in I smelled something burning. The heating pad under the face cradle just gave out and melted the vinyl cover. I had to move her to a regular table with a towel and finish the extractions by hand. Anyone else deal with equipment failing mid-service and how did you handle the awkwardness with the client?

heard a rep say cheap gel pads are notorious for that, glad no one got burned
