Finally got the hang of adjusting those old Dover door operators

I was working on a 1970s building in St. Louis last Tuesday, and the doors on one car just wouldn't sync right. The close speed was way off, making the reopen safety kick in every time. After messing with the linkage for an hour, the super told me to check the cam follower arm, which was worn almost smooth. Swapped it out with a new one from the truck and tweaked the close speed pot just a quarter turn. Now it runs quiet as a mouse. Anyone else have a go-to fix for worn cam followers on those old models?

Honestly, that sounds like a lot of work for a door that probably still works. So it bangs a little on the close, big deal. Most people just want to get in the elevator. I've seen those old things run for another ten years with a worn cam. Unless it's making a horrible grinding noise, I'd just leave it alone.

Yeah, those old cams can wear down without making much noise at all.
