TIL my bench hit 1000 repaired boards this year
Honestly, I was just doing my monthly count for taxes and the number shocked me. I hit 1000 repaired circuit boards since January, which is a huge jump from the 650 I did all last year. It matters because it's mostly older gear, like 90s audio amps and early 2000s game consoles, that people don't want to throw out. Ngl, the sheer volume means I'm seeing the same capacitor failures and cold solder joints over and over. Has anyone else seen a big spike in repair work on older electronics lately, or is it just my shop?

That's a crazy number, good for you. My shop is seeing the same thing with old stereo receivers and VCRs. Feels like everything from that era is hitting its failure point at once. People really hate how new stuff sounds and breaks so fast. Makes sense they'd rather fix the old reliable gear.

You think it's just old stuff hitting its failure point? A lot of it is people buying broken units online to fix up, not just their own gear dying. The demand is creating its own supply. I'm fixing amps from the 70s that have been in storage for decades because someone just bought them cheap. It's less about a wave of failures and more about a wave of interest.
